Salih Yoluc looks forward to the new challenge in Thailand
After a short break, Salih Yoluc kicks off his busy 2019 race programme this coming week (11 – 12 January) as he returns to the Asian Le Mans Series with the United Autosports team for round three of the championship at Buriram International Circuit, Thailand.
Salih is fourth in the overall LMP2 drivers’ championship with 25 points, 15 of which came with his superb podium position in the opening round of the championship in Shanghai. Fuji was less kind, with the #23 team losing out in terms of strategy in the changeable conditions to finish in fifth position. However, the result earned the team ten valuable points ahead of the penultimate round.
The Thai circuit is a new one for Salih, but the Turkish racer has already proved well-adept to new environments, making his debut in Shanghai in LMP2 machinery - for example - and going on to score the podium.
“Yes, it will be my first time at this circuit, but most tracks are pretty easy to learn and if I can get a good number of laps in unofficial testing ahead of the first official session, it isn’t an issue,” Salih explained. “We need to get everything right in this race to score some big points as we made mistakes in terms of strategy in Fuji and lost ground to some of our rivals.
“I’m looking forward to this new experience though – it’s the third race of the championship and I’m enjoying driving LMP2 cars for the first time. I’m sure that we can get a good result and improve our position in the championship ahead of a big push in Malaysia.”
The first official practice session in on Friday 11 January with qualifying on the same day. The four-hour endurance event gets underway Saturday at 11.45 local time, 07:45 IST.
